Portrait of designer Jürgen Greubel, who developed the NetWork table system and the Axis 360° extension and add-on concept for VS.

Jürgen Greubel The concentrated industrial designer

Straightforward and meticulous - this is how one could aptly describe the products that designer Jürgen Greubel creates. The connoisseur of serially manufactured products supports us as a creative mind. He is known for his linear designs whose main focus is on the function of the product - be it a juice extractor, a hair dryer or an office desk. For us, therefore, the focus is on his innovative ideas, which result in outstanding systems that make working in the office easier. Let's learn more about his career.

That's Jürgen Greubel: reserved like his designs

Our German design partner was born in 1938 and studied industrial design at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences. In this field, graduate Jürgen Greubel designs everyday utilitarian objects. For him, not only aesthetic designs are important, but above all functionality. When designing household appliances, furniture or machines, the focus is clearly on utility. Simply looking good is not enough. People should find it particularly easy to use the objects properly. The perfect prerequisite for a partnership with VS. After all, we want to make everyday life easier for pupils, students or professionals with our furniture.

When life gives you lemons...

Jürgen Greubel works in Braun's design department in Kronberg. His best-known designs include the Braun Multipress MP50 and the Braun MPZ 22 citrus juicer. What's new about them is that the juicer is designed so that you can directly set a glass into which the squeezed juice automatically flows. Simple, and yet so useful.

Washed with all waters

As an independent designer, Jürgen Greubel continues to design products for his previous employers that inspire with their innovative handling and applies for several patents.

What makes Jürgen Greubel's designs stand out?

The products Jürgen Greubel designs are characterized by clear lines - without a lot of frills or superfluous accessories. Therefore, it is not impressive colors or shapes that are revolutionary, but the handling. In 1986, for example, he developed the first hot-air paint remover that users can operate with just one hand. Whether for private households or at work, this makes it much easier to remove paint. For this development, he deservedly received the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Jürgen Greubel has a preference for simple shapes. And achieves an enormous effect with them, such as the hairdryer from the 1970s that he designed for the Braun company. As cult objects, his developments are still popular today - and always remain fully functional.

As design partner of VS: Jürgen Greubel goes to the office

Jürgen Greubel's designs remain clear and focused, even in his collaboration with our furniture. If his best-known products are often in the field of electrical engineering, it is obvious that his developments with VS also have a connection to technology. In office spaces, electronics take center stage and all the furniture around it enters into a symbiotic relationship with them. So in this area, too, he understands what people need and, together with VS, creates innovative tables for the office.

The holistic Axis 360° desk program (1995)

Already in the 1st collaboration, a desk program is created that can be innovatively extended and built up. The desks are height-adjustable and thus ergonomically adapt to the ideal sitting position.

The NetWork table system (1996)

The electrical system is intelligently integrated and the desk tops can be adapted to individual needs. Decide for yourself whether you want to extend the table system for a single workstation, as a corner table or as a conference table with the help of suspension plates.

Portrait of the French architect and designer Jean Nouvel

Jean Nouvel

Jean Nouvel (*1945) is one of the most influential architects and designers of our time. He has written architectural history worldwide with his buildings. Among many other honours, he has received the Pritzker Prize, the Nobel Prize for Architects. But Nouvel, the son of a married couple of teachers, doesn't just design buildings. His studios also produce furniture and everyday objects: A table. A door handle. A loudspeaker. And for us, the JUMPER.

Günter Behnisch

In 2022, the architect Günter Behnisch would have been 100 years old. Hard to believe! Today, many of his works seem as fresh as ever. This is true of our VS headquarters and the 900 Series furniture system, both designed by Behnisch. Join us on an anniversary stroll through his diverse work!

Portrait of the architect and designer Richard Neutra

Richard J. Neutra

He was one of the greats in the history of architecture and represents the ease and elegance of the Californian modern like no one else. Richard Neutra (1892-1970) also became all the rage on this side of the Atlantic and made a lasting impression on German post-war architecture. But he didn’t just design iconic buildings, he also developed seating for reading, relaxing and living. We have brought them back to life in the Neutra Furniture Collection by VS.
